Trilipix Generic Approved by FDA

July 18, 2013, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the generic version of AbbVie’s Trilipix, fenofibric acid, which is manufactured by Par Pharmaceutical Companies, Inc.

The FDA approved the generic fenofibric acid in two strengths, EQ 45mg and EQ 145mg.  Both approved strengths of the generic are now available at most pharmacies.

Trilipix is used to treat symptoms of severe hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia.  Trilipix is also used in combination with statins to treat symptoms of mixed dyslipidemia.

For plans with a Mandatory Generic or Dispense as Written policy, members can expect to receive the generic medication or may be required to pay a higher copayment for the brand name medication.

Please speak with your physician regarding the use of fenofibric acid, the generic alternative for Trilipix.
