Nasacort cleared for over-the-counter sale without a prescription
The FDA has approved Nasacort Allergy 24HR for over-the-counter (OTC) use and soon will no longer require a prescription for allergy relief. Beginning spring of 2014 allergy sufferers can obtain Nasacort from their local pharmacy or grocery store without seeing their healthcare professional first. Nasacort is the first nasal corticosteroid to be available without a prescription.
Nasacort is used in the treatment of seasonal and year round nasal allergies in both children (2 years of age or older) and adults. Nasacort relieves a wide range of nasal allergy symptoms including nasal congestions and itching.
Even though Nasacort Allergy 24HR is now available OTC, patients who suffer from allergies should still continue to see their allergist or healthcare professional as directed.
Medications available over-the-counter are not typically covered by insurance programs. If you have any questions regarding coverage contact your benefits office or human resources.
