Sun Pharma Launches Kapspargo Sprinkle Capsules
August 6, 2018 – Sun Pharma has launched Kapspargo™ Sprinkle (metoprolol succinate) capsules, an extended-release oral form of beta blocker approved to treat hypertension (high blood pressure), angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart), and heart failure in patients who are least six years of age.
Kapspargo Sprinkle capsules contain small, specially coated pellets that can be mixed with water, for administration via nasogastric tube, or sprinkled over soft foods for patients who have difficulty swallowing. The pellets can also be swallowed whole by patients who are able to do so. Dosage can range from 25mg to 200mg per day, with pediatric dosing based on the patient’s weight.
The new Kapspargo Sprinkle capsules are available in 25mg, 50mg, 100mg and 200mg dosage strengths. The average wholesale price (AWP) is $52.50 for a 30-count bottle of 25mg or 50mg capsules, $69.12 for a 30-count bottle of 100mg capsules, and $106.20 for a 30-count bottle of 200mg capsules. Metoprolol succinate, the active ingredient, has been approved for use in the United States since 1992, and is available in various forms as both a generic and brand name medication.
